Brain energy rescue in mild cognitive impairment: latest research about refueling the brain with ketones to delay Alzheimer disease (English)

Improving brain energy metabolism is emerging as a key strategy to resist cognitive decline towards Alzheimer disease. Our work with a ketogenic supplement in mild cognitive impairment (the 6-month BENEFIC RCT) showed that improvement in all five main cognitive domains was directly related to better brain energy status. We would predict that interventions (nutritional, lifestyle and/or pharmaceutical) aiming to prevent, delay or slow down Alzheimer disease will have a better chance of succeeding if they also improve brain energy metabolism.
